Tylos Tea History and Mission

The history of TYLOS tea now spans across two centuries and goes back to Serendib or Ceylon, the pearl of the Indian Ocean  where the finest teas in the world are grown until this very day, and which is also known today as Sri Lanka.

James Taylor began the first tea plantation in Ceylon in 1860 and by the time Ceylon tea started to move out into the world of the great British Empire, we were the pioneers in supplying the tea to all the Worlds capitals. In 1867 our great grand father began a legacy for fine teas which continues till today. Our family has been supplying the globe with the finest unblended garden fresh teas known for over two centuries throughout the world.

Tea is an Agricultural Product and therefore absorbs moisture from the time it leaves the plantation. Teas imported in bulk from various origins and then blended and packed in foreign countries normally are months old by the time it is available to the consumer. The long period from the plantation to the consumer render the tea old and tasteless.

TYLOS tea is picked, and packed within a few days of production.

Many tea growing Countries now use mechanical harvesting methods to pluck tea leaves. This is done at the expense of quality and flavour. TYLOS use only the traditional methods of growing, plucking and processing of tea. TYLOS teas are only hand plucked and the harvest is just the bud and first two tender leaves which result in the delicious aroma and flavour characteristic of TYLOS. Next to pure water, tea is one of the purest and most refreshing beverages in the World. It contains no additive, i.e. any

colouring, flavouring or preservative and is considered an easily accessible health drink. Tea has been cited as the most soothing and refreshing beverage and is a top rated  " pick me up" as shown in the "Health Drink" survey made in Britain by the U.K. Tea Council. Tea sans milk and sugar, is said to contain only around four calories per cup.
